Jen Sandbulte:

Mentor Coordinator

I rejoice in being married to my best friend, Tom. We have been entrusted with 5 children. Kendra and Matt, who are now in their 20's, twins Carter and Caleb, and sweet little EmmaLee.

Prior to joining ATLAS, I had been a Human Resources professional and leadership consultant. However, in recent years, God has made it clear that he wants me “completely.” (and daily I'm still trying to surrender to that!)

I'm blessed to serve in a role where I can connect those who are feeling called to do kingdom work, with those who are facing challenges and just need someone to come alongside them. Watching God pour out his blessing on both individuals involved is pure joy. I also enjoy being able to walk with some of our clients as a staff mentor.

“But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus-the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.” Acts 20:24

Harlan Van Voorst

Harlan Van Voorst:

Staff Mentor
haukolah@yahoo.com

My name is Harlan Van Voorst and I am grateful for 2 birthdays, one in 1950 and the second on May 1, 1970 when I gave my life to Christ. On that journey God has given me a supportive wife, 3 grown kids and 4 grandchildren. I love life, nature and challenges and have spent many years in the counseling and construction professions. My wife Karen and I are waiting for open doors and God's timing to go and share the gospel of love and our passion to the Lakota people on the Pine Ridge Reservation. My life verse is: “He has shown you, O man, what is good and what the Lord requires of you, to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8) I also love the following quote, “Attending to the suffering in the world is a gentle practice, not a harsh ideal, and such a thing we do when we are not so busy, so fearful, or so occupied.”

Director/Staff Mentor

I live in Sioux Center and am married to Tony Keahi. Tony and I are passionate about and involved in combining music and prayer with intimacy with God. I also enjoy being involved in and watching sports. In 2005, I was challenged to come up with a personal Biblical mandate. I put a lot of time and prayer into this mandate, and I believe that it accurately describes my passions, and my favorite verses, so I would like to share it with you:

“I will seek intimacy with God (Matthew 25:1-13) by passionately worshipping Him (Romans 12:1-2), surrounding myself with others who will encourage me (Hebrews 12:1), being obedient to God (II Peter 1: 5-11), and viewing my life in light of eternity (Philippians 1:21-22).”

After 13 years as a middle school math teacher I felt called to join my wife Amy in ministry at ATLAS. I have the privilege of walking alongside young men and women who are involved in the ATLAS Internship. As interns they devote time to personal/spiritual development as well as walking alongside the hurting people that come to ATLAS. I enjoy leading worship, doing carpentry, and spending time with friends and family.

“As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace... to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” Ephesians 4:1-3,12-13

My husband, David and I live in Sioux Center. We really enjoy being outside and golfing together. I also have a passion for music and love to sing. I am grateful to be a part of the ATLAS staff and enjoy sharing a smile with those who walk in the door. I pray that ATLAS continues to grow in this community and clients will continue to be touched by the love of Christ.

“From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another.” (John 1:16)

My husband Alan and I live on an acreage near Sioux Center. We have four great kids: Jacob, Madison, Carsyn, and Camryn. Together we enjoy raising German Shepherds, camping, and spending time with family and friends. I joined the ATLAS staff in 2005 and have found it a true blessing. I am especially passionate about helping people find freedom from the things that keep them from experiencing true joy in their life. I believe that joy can only be found in a relationship with Christ marked with depth and genuine worship. At ATLAS, we are called to walk with others on the journey to discover this joy, and for that, I am blessed that God placed me here. No one is beyond the reach of God's amazing grace, and it's a privilege to experience His ability to transform lives every day.

"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future...nor anything else in creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38-39

During my 27 years as a missionary in Colombia, South America, I saw many emotional hurting people. After experiencing the death of seven family members in eighteen months, I began to see God not only healing me but also calling me to minister to hurting people in our churches in Colombia. “Hope for the Hurting” became our motto and our goal was to help them find their real Freedom in Christ. It was an exciting time to see many people freed from emotional and addictive bondage. In 2001, I felt God leading me to stay here in the States and for seven years I worked with my local church denomination giving seminars on Freedom in Christ and praying with people for emotional healing. In June of 2011, I came to ATLAS to be a staff mentor, but also to help in any way I could with the Spanish-speaking community in Sioux Center. I am grateful for the Spanish-speaking clients who are coming and for the opportunity to speak directly to them without a translator. I enjoy that.

I also enjoy making cards from picturs I have taken, playing table games, and just being a social butterfly.

My name is Karen Van Voorst, and I am married to Harlan. We have 3 children, a son-in-law, a daughter-in-law, and 4 grandchildren. It has been a true blessing to be in ministry together with my husband. Almost 2 years ago I started out volunteering at ATLAS, spent a lot of time here, and was truly blessed to be a part of this outreach. I recently joined the staff at ATLAS of Sioux Center and am here part-time. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is to meet and greet the people that walk through our doors and making them feel welcome. My personal walk with Jesus is such an enjoyable journey, and I love to incorporate the ministry of ATLAS into that. To walk along with and support hurting people each and every day is a true blessing from God. My husband and I have a true passion for the Native Americans, and if God calls us to that someday, our goal is to take the model of ATLAS to the Lakota people.

“For I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day.” 2 Timothy 1:12

At ATLAS of Sioux Center, my main job is to partner with the Holy Spirit in uniting the community and churches through prayer and worship. I lead and organize community prayer meetings that are infused with worship music and held four times a month. Throughout ministry, I hope to equip and empower people around me to use their talents and gifts for the Lord. I am excited about the things God is doing in Sioux Center, and I am blessed to be a part of His perfect plan for our community.
