Ginger Holler: Director/Mentor Coordinator I have seen in my own life how God has used mentors to encourage and guide me when my life struggles seemed overwhelming. After a painful divorce, I went to a Christian grad school program in professional counseling which God used to help in my healing. I have been director of NEW HOPE for two years. As we begin our mentoring program, I am excited about working with mentors as they love and encourage hurting folks in our community. I look forward to seeing how God will use mentoring through ATLAS to complement our existing ministries of professional counseling and support groups. Three years ago, I married Mark Holler, a pastor in Oxford, PA and moved from Tennessee to Pennsylvania. Between us, we have 9 children, 5 children-in-law, and 4 grandchildren! We are thankful for God's faithfulness to us as a family. ![]() Shannon Shertzer: Counselor As one of the NEW HOPE counselors, I've been privileged to walk alongside individuals, couples and families who are struggling. Many times I've asked the question, "Who is supporting you during this difficult time?" I'm always dismayed when the answer is "no one." Too many people are not just alone, but lonely. As a counselor, I encourage these folks to find a friend or group who will cheer them on and build them up. That's why I'm thrilled that NEW HOPE is partnering with ATLAS to bring mentoring opportunities to our clients. I've been counseling with NEW HOPE for 1 ½ years now. My husband and I live in Lititz, PA with our Bernese Mountain dog, Tilly.
Glenford Kauffman: Counselor Glenford has a real heart for the Lord and for people, and this is obvious to all who are around him. Glenford uses creativity and play as he counsels children. He specializes in abuse intervention, divorce recovery, marital reconciliation, and grief and loss counseling. Glenford is excited to see growth and healing in families. He encourages husbands to get involved in relationships with Christian men by pointing them to men's Bible study groups. He is excited about the mentoring program to help hurting people who need a "support buddy." After the Amish schoolhouse tragedy in October 2006, he befriended some of the families involved and has remained in close contact ever since. Glenford and his wife enjoy the outdoors and photography.
Sam Mwangi: Addictions Counselor Sam and his wife Gladys were both born in Kenya. Sam came to know the Lord in 1986 through the witness of a man on a public bus. He then worked for the African Christian Church as a missions director doing evangelism and church planting. Sam and Gladys came to the USA to study Bible and human services at Youth Challenge International Bible Institute to prepare for urban ministry work. He graduated from Lancaster Bible College in 2001 and served as assistant pastor of the African Community Church of Lancaster for five years. He does alcohol and drug counseling and support groups here at NEW HOPE from a Biblical perspective. His number one passion is to serve the Lord. He and his wife have two boys. In his spare time, Samuel enjoys riding bikes, swimming and soccer.
Mary Lehman: Secretary The day after my mother died, I was listlessly looking through the paper and an ad for a secretary for NEW HOPE caught my eye. Although it looked appealing to me, I thought the timing just wasn't right and that something else would open up for me in a few months when I felt I would be ready to enter the work force again. I had worked as a secretary for many years, but the previous two years, I had not been working so as to spend more time with my mother. I kept thinking about it though, and two days later, I hastily typed up a resume and faxed it in to NEW HOPE, figuring that probably I would never hear anything. The rest is pretty much history. Looking back now, I can see that the timing was actually perfect. I needed to begin my life again, and NEW HOPE was a perfect fit for me. I love secretarial work and I care deeply about those around us who are hurting. I think the mentoring program is a wonderful addition to our counseling ministry. I am married to my husband Steve. We have four children and two daughters-in-law. God has blessed us and we are grateful. |
